The exhibition …barely pausing/pausing barely… marks the first edition of an annual collaboration between A Tale of A Tub and Tlön Projects and presents a variety of artworks selected from the imaginary collection of Tlön Projects. This imaginary collection is formed by the convergence of selected artworks from various international private art collections, whereby Tlön Projects aims to generate access to artworks which otherwise would have been largely shielded from public access.
In …barely pausing/pausing barely… the volatile state of stasis, on a physical, personal and societal level—produced by opposing modes of hyperactivity and inertia—is taken as a starting point to discern the tireless and profound influence of capitalism in which we are all caught in.
The assortment of artworks and experiences in this exhibition has been selected to occupy a liminal interstice, a space that calls the all-encompassing logic of capitalist power into question. The artworks serve to unravel the ways in which technological flows and processes have transformed our lived experience into economic abstractions. The collection of works is shown against the historical backdrop of the former function of the exhibition space as a public bath and wash house—which served as a site for domestic labour, physical cleansing and recovery. A number of artworks trace the phantasmic presence of entangled bodies and environments that are incompatible with the conventional understanding of time and space, while other works alienate and fragment our understanding of subjectivity and personhood through unexpected utterances and movements. The exhibited inventory of acts, gestures and activities are simultaneously done and undone, and even in their unvarying repetitions may hold a potential break with the cyclical trap of work, life and rest in a time bound by self-discipline and management.

De tentoonstelling …barely pausing/pausing barely… markeert de eerste editie van een jaarlijks terugkerend samenwerkingsverband tussen A Tale of A Tub en Tlön Projects en presenteert een verscheidenheid aan kunstwerken geselecteerd uit de denkbeeldige collectie van Tlön Projects. Deze denkbeeldige collectie wordt gevormd door de samengang van geselecteerde kunstwerken uit verschillende internationale private kunstcollecties, waarbij Tlön Projects zich het doel stelt om kunstwerken—die anders grotendeels afgeschermd zouden zijn geweest voor het publiek—te ontsluiten.
In …barely pausing/pausing barely… wordt de vluchtige toestand van stilstand, op zowel lichamelijk, persoonlijk als maatschappelijk vlak—veroorzaakt door tegengestelde vormen van hyperactiviteit en traagheid—als startpunt genomen om de verreikende machtssfeer van het kapitalisme die ons allemaal bevangt.
Het bestand van kunstwerken en ervaringen in deze tentoonstelling is geselecteerd om een nog onbestemde tussenruimte in te nemen, een ruimte die de allesomvattende invloedssfeer en logica van het kapitalisme bevraagd. De kunstwerken bieden ondersteuning bij het ontrafelen van de wijze waarop technologische stromen en processen onze geleefde ervaring hebben getransformeerd in economische abstracties. De collectie werken wordt getoond tegen de historische achtergrond van de voormalige functie van de tentoonstellingsruimte als een openbaar bad- en washuis—die dienst deed als plek voor huishoudelijke arbeid, lichamelijke reiniging en herstel. Een aantal kunstwerken traceert de spookachtige aanwezigheid van verstrengelde lichamen en omgevingen die niet verenigbaar zijn met het conventionele begrip van tijd en ruimte. Weer andere werken vervreemden en fragmenteren ons begrip van subjectiviteit en mens-zijn door middel van onverwachte uitingen en bewegingen. De tentoongestelde inventaris van handelingen, gestes en activiteiten komen tegelijkertijd tot stand en weer tot afbreuk en laten zelfs in hun onveranderlijke herhalingen een potentiële breuk zien met de cyclische valstrik van werk, leven en rust in een tijd gekenmerkt door zelfdiscipline en -management.
